“There were five weeks left in the federal fiscal year and he still had no idea what it was going to take to get a deal done with the House Republicans. Every cycle was the same story. They never passed a budget on time. It was always a rush at the end. And somehow it always had happened, usually days or hours before the deadline. One of these years, his luck was going to run out. A government shutdown haunted his dreams.
No one else seemed to feel much urgency about it, which irked him. The...re was only one week left in the summer recess, meaning that the fiscal year was rapidly drawing to a close. Perhaps the return of the members would help. Or maybe it would make everything worse. Politicians were the problem with politics.
Millie bothered him too. He had borrowed a drill from Jim Tulliver and considered showing up at her apartment to install her damn shades. He decided against it, however, because it might be creepy. More than that, it might fill the girl with false hope.MoreLess
