“Otto went every Sunday to the house where his son and mother and almost-ex-wife lived. Daphne of course was never witness to these occasions, but according to Laura, she and Mrs. Kraft served Otto slices of his favorite tortes, and coffee, and brandy. Otto asked his mother how her health was, and what she was doing with herself, and what the news was from home, and what she thought of the New England weather. Then he took Hanno by the hand and led him off to an afternoon of museums, or movies, ...or ice skating, or swimming in the college pool, and then a snack of pizza. When he brought Hanno home, he knocked on the door and waited for Laura to reclaim their son. He did not go in, but left immediately.
