“She focused on the patch of wooden floor in front of her as she headed for the bar. A dozen sets of eyes watched her amble through the tables, a hushed murmur going through the crowd. She nodded at the barkeep, ordering a whiskey as she settled in a seat near the far end, the feel of something other than a saddle beneath her soothing some of the tension in her shoulders.
